  • Kindle adds 'Get Book' buy button to where it always belonged

All this legislating from the bench will hopefully be dealt with before too long. In the meantime, it’s exposing these shady organizations (who make money from other being on their stores) as extortionists, only putting in work if they don’t pay to be in someone else’s store.

It’s why I no longer have an Amazon subscription nor a Spotify one. It’s a matter of principle. Doesn’t alter my lifestyle at all. I’ve always found it healthier and have met lots of good people by always avoiding the card reader at the pump and the self-checkout at various retailers. Going to the human being at the register is the way to go.

Apple Books are usually presented much nicer than kindle anyway. And Apple Music has inched closer to the old iTunes simplicity that Spotify copied to begin with.

To each his own, but I don't get it. Would anyone schlep all the way from the gas pump into the station, probably waste time on a line behind people who need to be there to pay cash or buy something, just to use a card anyway???

Personally, I use the self checkout whenever possible. I would rather checkout a cart full of groceries myself rather than unload on to a conveyor belt and then have the cashier ring  and bag it. It's faster and in most stores I get to ring up and bag it all the way I want.

  • Developers will have a hard time getting App Store users to buy directly

I'm sure they will get flack for it, but I hope there will be a way in settings to prohibit the download of anything that isn't from the app store.
I am foreseeing the nightmare ahead when my click-happy mom starts accidentally/unwittingly downloading stuff from all the ads in her games and e-mail etc.
    This is a scammer's dream.

  • Apple sued for $5M for not recovering data after iPhone theft

"That suit has now entered a discovery phase, which can take between six and eight moths to complete."

If the attorneys hire additional moths, can this be completed sooner? :D

  • Apple Watch to get small hardware changes, big software updates

I have an Apple Watch Series 6 and I have very little reason to upgrade. And that’s not because the Apple Watch is a bad product or anything. It’s actually the exact opposite. The Apple Watch is such a good product that I’m still very happy to continue using mine almost 5 years after it was released. Everything that I need my Apple Watch to do, it does.

My Series 6’s battery health is getting a little long in the tooth (at completely normal and expected level after all these years). So that’ll probably be my reason for eventually upgrading (rather than paying $100 or so for a battery replacement). But for now, I can probably get another year or so out of it.

Also… my Series 6 has the blood oxygen feature that the Series 10 and Ultra 2 lack (in the US), lol.

I'm still rocking an S4 that does everything I need it to right now.

  • How to use the Apple Maps Library feature in iOS 18

Not a fan of the latest update.

Personally, I have no use for Libraries or Guides and would like the ability to hide them from the main screen. Guides is irrelevant for me. Major cities that I am not that close to. I would just turn it on if I went someplace new and maybe want to check it out. Just too cluttered on the screen.
Also, why is the display now in dark mode only?

Update: For some reason, dark mode is enabled when looking at the satellite map. All three of the other maps will use the light setting. Hopefully, it will be fixed in a future update.
